Up-Lighting, Room Lighting, LED Lighting, Wall Wash Lighting all sound the same, yet only two of these terms are the most similar. Up-Lighting & Wall Wash Lighting are the most similar.

Room Lighting can be accomplished in multiple ways and using up-lighting is one way to achieve this, but there are numerous alternatives to create amazing looks within a venue.

LED Lighting which is such a widely used term, that is so often mistaken for what an LED actually is. LED is an acronym for “Light Emitting Diode.” Basically an electrical current passes thru a semiconductor material, which then illuminates a light source called LED. Heat is typically dispersed using heat sinks and/or cooling fans, this typically depends on the amount of heat being generated. LED Lighting is used everywhere, including your car, cell phone, computer, TV and of course the entertainment industry.

VSP has numerous options when it comes to LED Lighting; Including: LED Strip Lights, LED Par Can Lights, LED Intelligent Lighting and of course those small work lights we use over our consoles.

Be sure to ask the following questions prior to renting LED Up-Lighting for your next event:
Are the fixture’s LED Diodes, Single, Tri, Quad, 5 or 6 Color Diodes? Tri Color and up fixtures eliminates the shadow effect created by single color LED fixtures.

What wattage are the fixtures? The higher wattage, the brighter the fixture. A common LED up-light should have LEDs in the range of 1 Watt to 10 Watt Per Diode. A Side Note Example. A Quad Color LED Fixture that is rated at 10 Watts Per LED Diode and has 7 Lens: This is typically Red, Green, Blue, White, (RGBW) and is actually a 70 Watt Fixture at full power only. However…maybe you want your venue all green? Technically the green diodes are actually 2.5 Watts Per x 7 Lens which is actually 17.5 Watts of output.

Are the fixtures recommended for camera use? Most low end fixtures have a nearly invisible flicker effect that is highly visible when recording an event on camera. Be sure the fixtures you are using are flicker-free rated for TV and FILM.

Can we change the colors at any point during the event? Most fixtures in the entertainment industry have DMX capabilities, this is the protocol that lighting desks use to communicate with a fixture. This is typically an added cost and does require a skilled operator to set-up, program and operate the fixtures for the duration of your event.
